On December 21, 2024, Ambassador of China to Saudi Arabia Chang Hua visited the China-Saudi Arabia joint archaeological project at Al-Serrain site and expressed his greetings to the archaeological team members from both countries.
Ambassador Chang Hua came to the excavation site and carefully looked at the unearthed relics such as pottery fragments, ancient coins, and fragments of Chinese Blue and White porcelain and learned in details about the latest results of the excavation.Ambassador Chang Hua fully affirmed and expressed appreciation for the efforts of the Chinese-Saudi Arabian joint archaeological team, emphasizing that the China-Saudi Arabia joint archaeological project at Al-Serrain site is an important part to implement the results of mutual visits of the leaders of two countries. This project is of great significance to strengthening exchanges and mutual learning between Chinese and Arab civilizations. The cultural relics unearthed from the site are historical witnesses of the friendly exchanges between China and Arab countries. He hopes that the archaeological team will continue to work hard and achieve greater results.
Al Serrian port was once an important port on the ancient Maritime Silk Road. In 2016, China and Saudi Arabia signed the "Archaeological Cooperation Agreement at Al-Serrain Site". Since 2018, the Chinese-Saudi Arabian joint archaeological team has carried out archaeological surveys and excavations at the site twice.
