On January 19, 2016 local time, President Xi Jinping met with Secretary-General Iyad Ameen Madani of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Riyadh.

Xi Jinping pointed out that China and the Islamic countries enjoy natural and traditional friendly relations, and China will always be a good friend, good partner and good brother of the Islamic countries. As a symbol of unity among the Islamic countries, the OIC plays a unique role in international and regional affairs and has made great contributions to promoting cooperation among the Islamic countries. Over the 40 years of friendly exchanges, China and the OIC have found a way for different cultures, different religions and different social systems to get along. China welcomes the OIC's role as a bridge to inject more positive energy into the development of China's relations with the Islamic countries.

Xi Jinping stressed that China and the Islamic countries should regard their cooperation with a broader vision, strengthen policy communication and promote their understanding of each other's concerns as well as mutual trust. We appreciate the OIC's public denouncement on the violent and terrorist activities that took place in China. Within the framework of the "Belt and Road" initiative, China is willing to deepen the convergence and strengthen the bond of interests with the Islamic countries, borrow each other's strength and develop together. We should expand dialogues between the two great civilizations of China and Islam to spread the good, curb the evil, clear up the source and get to the root of problems. We should enhance international cooperation and safeguard fairness and justice to promote a comprehensive and just resolution of the Palestinian issue as soon as possible. China is willing to strengthen cooperation with the Islamic countries in international and regional affairs so as to jointly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of the developing countries, push forward the global governance reform and promote world peace and development.

Iyad Ameen Madani said that the OIC attaches high importance to its relations with the great China, and thanks China for its fair stance on the Middle East issue. China is an influential and important member of the international community, and the OIC holds similar positions with China on matters of principle in dealing with international affairs. It is expected that China will play a greater role in the Middle East and African affairs.
