On January 14, 2012, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao arrived in Riyadh, capital of Saudi Arabia for an official visit to the country.

Sino-Saudi ties have enjoyed all-around and rapid development since the establishment of diplomatic relations 22 years ago, said Wen in a written statement upon arrival at the airport. The premier said the two countries have demonstrated mutual understanding and support on key issues of common concern, and cooperation in all sectors has been fruitful, adding that the two sides have already become "good friends, good brothers and good partners." China views its relationship with Saudi Arabia from a strategic and long-term perspective and is willing to work with the kingdom in promoting friendly and pragmatic cooperation so as to benefit the two countries and their peoples, he said.

Wen said he was looking forward to meeting with King Abdullah bin Abdul-Aziz and Crown Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and to broadly engaging with Saudi people from all walks of life. He expressed belief that his current visit will help further consensus, consolidate friendship and push forward China-Saudi Arabia strategic friendly relations.

Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal, as representative of Saudi King, and Chinese Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Li Chengwen greeted Wen at the airport. Prince Saud al-Faisal held a grand welcome ceremony for Premier Wen.
