On January 15, 2012, visiting Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met with Speaker of Saudi Arabia's Consultative Council Abdullah Bin Mohammed Bin Ibrahim Al-Sheikh in Riyadh.

China and Saudi Arabia enjoy a solid political basis, are highly complementary in economic fields, and the two peoples cherish genuine friendship toward each other, said Wen. The Chinese premier hailed the China-Saudi Arabia consensus to enhance bilateral relations within the strategic framework as a major achievement for his visit. Implementing this consensus, he added, would require close coordination between the two governments and joint efforts by people from all walks of life. Wen noted that the Saudi Consultative Council plays an important role in the political life in Saudi Arabia, expressing hope that the Council will continue to support the development of China-Saudi Arabia relations. Wen welcomes more members of the Council to visit China in a bid to build up mutual understanding and friendship.

The Saudi speaker said Wen's visit would produce fruitful results and a profound influence in the context of rapid-changing regional and international situations. He pledged that the Saudi Consultative Council would step up exchanges with China's National People's Congress, with an aim to provide advice on developing bilateral relations and push the Saudi Arabia-China friendly cooperation to a new height.
