2015-02-28 18:05

On February 27, 2015, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Beijing with the delegation of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) ministerial contact group on Palestine and Jerusalem led by Foreign Minister Sameh Shukry of Egypt. Other members of the delegation were Secretary General of the OIC, Palestinian Foreign Minister, Guinean Foreign Minister and representative of Azerbaijani Foreign Minister.

Wang Yi expressed that the Palestinian issue, the core of the Middle East issue, is more pressing under the current situation. China firmly supports the just cause of the Palestinian people to restore their legitimate rights and interests as a nation, and understands and backs that Palestine gets more involved in the international community as a state. As a permanent member of the UN Security Council, China has always spoken out from a sense of and upheld justice on international occasions. President Xi Jinping specifically put forward a four-point proposal for the Palestinian issue last year. China is always striving to push all sides to pursue peace talks and march toward the general orientation of founding an independent Palestinian state as well as peaceful co-existence of Palestine and Israel. The OIC is committed to unifying forces supporting the just cause of the Palestinian people, which serves as an important guarantee for politically solving the Palestinian issue. China will join efforts with the Islamic countries to push for an early, just and reasonable solution of the Palestinian issue.

Sameh Shukry said that the Islamic and Arab countries pay high attention to developing relations with China, thank China for its long-term and selfless support for the just cause of the Palestinian people and welcome China to play an important role in the Palestinian issue.
