On November 25, 2024, Ambassador of China to Saudi Arabia Chang Hua visited the Yanbu Aramco Sinopec Refining Company, a joint venture between Saudi Aramco and Sinopec. During the visit, Ambassador Chang Hua met with President and CEO, Eng. Saad Binmatlig and expressed his regards to the Chinese personnel of the project.
Ambassador Chang Hua highlighted that in January 2016, President Xi Jinping and King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud witnessed the commissioning ceremony of the refinery. The mutually beneficial cooperation between China and Saudi Arabia in the energy field has brought tangible benefits to the people of both countries. The Yanbu Refining Company not only helps Saudi Arabia upgrade the energy industry, but also benefits local people's livelihood.. It is a vivid example of the alignment of China's “Belt and Road Initiative” and Saudi Arabia’s “Vision 2030”. He expressed hope for deepening friendly cooperation in various fields between the two nations.
President and CEO Saad provided an detailed introduction to the production and operation of the company. He said China and Saudi Arabia have made close cooperation and made positive contributions to the smooth operation and efficiency improvement of the project. The Yanbu Refining Comapany plans to further expand production and make it a model of pragmatic cooperation between the two countries.
The Yanbu Refining Company is jointly built by Sinopec and Saudi Aramco, with a total investment of more than US$8 billion. It is China's largest investment project in Saudi Arabia.
