Saudi Arabia is a major Arab and Islamic country, a global energy powerhouse, and a member of the G20. The friendship between China and Saudi Arabia has deep historical roots. As early as the 15th century, the famed Chinese navigator Zheng He of the Ming Dynasty visited Jeddah, Mecca, and other parts of the Kingdom.
Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1990, China-Saudi bilateral relations have experienced rapid development. Saudi Arabia has long been a major supplier of crude oil to China. It has been China’s largest trading partner in the Middle East since 2001, while China has been Saudi Arabia’s largest trading partner since 2013. In January 2016, the two countries established a China-Saudi Arabia comprehensive strategic partnership.
In recent years, the Belt and Road Initiative has been closely aligned with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030. Cooperation between China and Saudi Arabia has deepened across multiple sectors such as energy, science and technology, and infrastructure development. People-to-people exchanges are also growing steadily. In December 2022, President Xi Jinping paid a state visit to Saudi Arabia and attended the first China-Arab States Summit and the China-GCC Summit, elevating the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries to a new level.
The Embassy is committed to promoting exchanges and cooperation between the two countries and the two peoples. It actively upholds the principle of “Diplomacy for the people” and is dedicated to serving Chinese citizens working, studying, and living in Saudi Arabia.
